For high school age humans (and a few middle school age) who have already completed at least one Greenhorn level internship AND have talked with Grace or Darrell for approval of “promotion” to the advanced level group.
This is a 6 week internship at Poco Farm, learning and working alongside Grace, Darrell, Dan, Shanti and Ian.
6 FRIDAYS, 3:30-5:30, Oct 6-Nov 8.
Topics will include: basic animal husbandry, water usage & conservation, farm economics, climate beneficial farming techniques, sustainable living practices, nutrient cycling (in soil and neighborhoods), community involvement & support, how to start a farmstead, and more.
This is for mostly high school age folks and the occasional mature middle schooler: folks who are serious about learning about farming and ready to take charge of their own learning path, find inspiration and work hard. They must have tried out this internship before and enjoyed learning the pace and energy level of basic farm work.
In order to participate in the advanced level, interns must have already contacted Grace or Darrell via email, in person or by phone to discuss their readiness for this program. Involvement in this level of internship requires an invitation from a Poco teacher. They also must be able to attend at least 5 of the 6 weeks.
Interns will be asked to arrive promptly, dress usefully, share their ideas, work hard, and ask lots of questions, just like Grace, Darrell, Shanti and Ian will.
We offer this at no cost. Limited to 15 people, must have at least 6 to run this program.
