Fall 2023 internship

6 week internship at Poco Farm, learning and working alongside Grace, Darrell, Shanti and Ian.

FRIDAYS, 3:30-5:30, Oct 6- Nov 10.

This is for middle and high school age folks, ages 12-18, who are serious about learning about farming and ready to take charge of their own learning path, find inspiration and work hard.

Topics will include: basic animal husbandry, water usage & conservation, farm economics, climate beneficial farming techniques, sustainable living practices, nutrient cycling (in soil and neighborhoods), community involvement & support, how to start a farmstead, and more.

Interns will be asked to arrive promptly, dress usefully, share their ideas, work hard, and ask lots of questions, just like Grace, Shanti and Ian will.

We offer this at no cost. Limited to 15 people, must have at least 8 to run this program.

For Applicant: AGREEMENT REGARDING HUSTLE/FOCUS

Please read carefully! The primary goals of this internship are to provide you with farming knowledge AND begin to prepare you to potentially have a job on a farm someday. To do this, all interns must be ready to make an agreement together- the entire group must be on the same page about this commitment. We must all agree to: 1. bring our well-fed and watered bodies to the farm ready to work hard and efficiently, learning the hustling pace of farmwork. 2. refrain from socializing during our work and learning time, until we are skilled enough to multitask at working AND chatting (your instructor will let you know when this is) 3. learn to anticipate what will need doing and do it without asking, be creative and problem solve AND 4. know when replenishing is needed, and intentionally take the time to sit in shade/hydrate/snack if needed. *If every intern doesn't show up in these 4 ways, we are not able to serve you the way we love to, and provide you with this knowledge and skill. These are skills that are super useful for your futures as learners and workers, no matter if you are interested in working on a farm someday or not. Are you ready and wanting to make this agreement to show up fully by doing these 4 things? Please don't apply if you're not (which is totally ok!).
